A few days ago, we received the long-awaited notification from the Federal Ministry of Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport about the amount of funding for the 2025 annual program.
We were shocked to discover that Servus will receive 30% less funding from the Federal Chancellery in 2025 than in the last two years. No justification or future prospects has been yet communicated. This is of course very worrying and shows how fragile the art server ecosystem is. It also shows how little the discourse on the development of sustainable and fair digital infrastructures for the arts reaches the institutions responsible for promoting art and culture.
This naturally has an impact on our annual program and raises questions about the upcoming issue of AMRO. We are in the process of adapting our annual program and developing a plan for the future. We will definitely keep you informed.
*> In the meantime: support your local data center! if you have friends or acquaintances who are looking for a non-commercial, self-managed server and community for critical digital issues, we'd love to hear from you. Membership not only provides access to our community and infrastructure, but also helps to make our operation less dependent on fluctuating political will.
So please spread the word to your friends!
