Touching Thoughts @ Ars Electronica Festival 2024

Touching Thoughts is an artistic-scientific project that was presented during the last Ars Electronica Festival 2024. The project is the result of a collaboration between servus.at and the JKU's Medical Faculty, which aims at exploring protocols and modes of three-dimensional imaging in the field of digital pathology and bring together researchers, scientists and media artists.

Since mid-2023, we at servus have been following a process of evaluation and restructuring called reARDC (rethinking the Artist Run Data Center), the first iteration of which will be released in the fall of 2024.

The process started with the need to update the software that runs our main websites core.servus.at and radical-openness.org, which unsurprisingly opened a pandora's box of questions like "does it still make sense to host our own infrastructure?", "where is the community?" & "why are we still using Drupal?"

For its 10th edition "Dancing at the Crossroads", AMRO has invited its community of artists and technologists, activists and developers to contribute with works of protest and dissent against the normative, extractive and anti-social technological mainstream. We aim to explore forms of computational degrowth and the principles of permacomputing, and to address the consequences of a perhaps resistible rise of total AI.
